The Motorola Moto X40 is a premium smartphone from Motorola. It’s the successor to the Motorola Moto X30 Pro released last year and it comes with a new chipset. It also has an under-display camera model that placed the front camera under the front screen. Chipset, CPU, and GPU
The Motorola Moto X40 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 5G chipset. This 5G chipset is built on a 4nm process technology and features an Octa-core processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset has an Octa-core CPU with a maximum speed clocked at 3.2GHz. It has one Cortex-X3 prime core with a clock speed of 3.2GHz, two Cortex-A715 power cores with a speed of 2.80GHz, two Cortex-A710 big efficiency cores with a speed of 2.8GHz, and three Cortex-A510 small efficiency cores with a speed of 2.00GHz.
The CPU cores are paired with the Adreno 740 GPU. This chipset allows the Moto X40 to process data faster and render high graphics with ease. The chipset in the Moto X40 features a new ISP and a better AI Neural Engine. The Moto X40 can record videos in 8K resolution and play graphics-intensive games with ease thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Cameras
Motorola Moto X40 features a triple rear camera and a single front camera. On the rear, it has a 50MP primary camera with f/1.9 aperture, Dual-Pixel PDAF, and OIS features. The primary camera is supported by a 50MP ultra-wide lens that also doubles as the macro lens, a 12MP telephoto lens that can do 2x optical zoom, and a 60MP front camera.
The back cameras of the Motorola Moto X40 can steady videos in 8K resolution while the 60MP front camera can record steady videos in 4k resolution. Camera features such as Dual-LED flash, panorama, HDR, 10-bit HDR10+, gyro-EIS, Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS, portrait, night mode, etc are available in the Motorola Moto X40.
Display, Design, and Durability
The Motorola Moto X40 has a 6.67-inches curved OLED display that can refresh at 144Hz and supports HDR10+. The peak brightness of the display is 1250 nits and it has slim bezels thanks to the curved screen. Motorola Moto X40 weighs about 196 g (6.91 oz) and its dimension measure about 161.3 x 73.9 x 8.5 mm (6.35 x 2.91 x 0.33 in).
The front screen has a punch holder on the top center that houses the front camera. It also has a model that uses the under-display camera tech where the front camera is placed underneath the display. On the rear, it has a camera module where all three rear camera sensors are placed. It supports Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) but has no microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack port.
The volume rocker and power button of the Moto X40 are on the right side of the frame of the phone. While its microphone, stereo speaker grill, and USB Type-C charging port are on the bottom of the frame. There is a second speaker and microphone on the top side of the frame.
RAM, Storage, and Battery
The Motorola Moto X40 comes in four storage configurations. It has an 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 18GB + 512GB storage version. As stated above, there is no space for a microSD card hence users can’t expand the storage of this phone via a microSD card if the internal storage is full.
A 5,000mAh battery powers the Motorola Moto X40 while the under-display camera model is powered by a 4,800mAh battery. The phone supports 60W wired fast charging and you can charge the battery of the Moto X40 using the 68W charger from 0 to 100% in about 40 minutes. But, there is no wireless charging and no reverse wireless charging solution available.
Software and Other Features
The Motorola Moto X40 boots MYUI based on Android 13 out of the box. This phone is expected to get about three years of software updates. You can download and install apps from the Google Play Store on this phone and even download major updates over OTA.

The Motorola Moto X40 price in Canada starts at about CA$950 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage option while the models with 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 18GB + 512GB sell for about CA$1,049, C$1,249, and C$1,359. Motorola Moto X40 Release Date
